Joe Bodell reports: I couldn’t resist: I poked into Norm Coleman’s supporter database, made publicly available by the Coleman campaign itself and subsequently provided for public consumption.

I’m not going to provide the database, or any links deeper than to Wikileaks’ homepage, from which you can confirm what I found on your own. But the disclaimers aside, the headline says it all.
And Coleman’s database includes just such a column. One of the codes in that column is “gopjew_091307″ — and there are over 20,000 of them.
Campaigns are required to track the source of records like these — since they buy, lease, and otherwise borrow lists from various organizations, it’s important (and legally required) to note where you got a given name from. Most campaign databases will include a column called “Source” or something similar to denote this piece of information.
And Coleman’s database includes just such a column. One of the codes in that column is “gopjew_091307″ — and there are over 20,000 of them.
Coleman is Jewish, as is his Democratic opponent Al Franken. But of 50,000 names in the database, over 20,000 from a single list, brought to the campaign September 13th, 2007?
There are a couple of possible connections here — On September 20th of that year, Coleman sponsored a Sense of the Senate resolution that said “that the U.S. should ‘combat, contain, and roll back’ Iran’s ‘violent activities and destabilizing influence inside Iraq.”
Earlier this year, after he was shuffled out of the Senate once his term officially expired, Coleman accepted a role with the Republican Jewish Coalition, which very well could be the source of the “gopjew_091307″ source list in the first place. There’s no way to know for sure.
But 40% of a supporter database from a single source in the American Jewish political lobby could make for a very powerful special interest arrangement for a former Senator. Whatever organization it was that leased, sold, or gave its list to the Coleman campaign, they’re more than entitled to their views and their advocacy efforts. I don’t expect the RJC to give Al Franken their list any time soon.
But it’s worth asking, if it was the RJC, whether the provision of their supporter list was a leading indicator of Coleman’s support for their agenda, or a trailing one — and what part it played in their later hiring of the former Senator for a job about which we still don’t know much.

“Hitler was a Jew who helped found Israel.” It might seem preposterous to many, but recent comments made by Mohammad-Ali Ramin, a top advisor to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad seem to indicate otherwise.
In a recent interview with an Iranian website, Ramin said that Adolph Hitler was a Jew from his mother’s side and his actions to found the State of Israel stemmed from his Jewish connections and came as a result of cooperation between him and Britain in light of their joint wishes to rid Europe of all Jews.
Ramin explained Hitler’s hate towards the Jews because his mother was a Jewish prostitute and he developed a loathing towards her and her ethnic background. “At this time he both felt disdain and connection to the Jewish faith, and this ambivalence effected his treatment of the Jews,” Ramin said.
According to Ramin, on one hand, all of his family and friends were Jewish including his lovers and his personal doctor. “On the other hand,” Ramin added, “he welcomed the expulsion and extermination of the Jews because of the rich Jews’ plans to establish a Jewish government in Palestine.”

Just when you thought the Iranian leadership could stoop no further: MEMRI (Middle East Media Research Institute) reported that a top advisor to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad claimed in an interview with Iranian website Baztab that Nazi leader Adolf Hitler’s parents were both Jewish and that Hitler himself was one of the founders of the State of Israel.
In the interview, translated by MEMRI, Mohammad-Ali Ramin, a chief aide to Ahmadinejad, told Baztab that Hitler’s paternal grandmother was a Jewish prostitute and his father even kept his Jewish name until finally changing it to Hitler when he was 40.
Ramin also claimed that the reason Hitler developed such an aversion to Judaism was because his Jewish mother was a promiscuous woman. Hitler therefore, says Ramin, tried to escape his religion.
Ramin cites a 1974 book by Hennecke Kardel titled ‘Adolf Hitler: Founder of Israel’, which alleges that Hitler strived to create a Jewish state as a result of being influenced by his Jewish relatives and his cooperation with Britain – which also wanted to drive the Jews out of Europe.
Ramin claims in the interview that Hitler both identified with his Judaism and was disgusted by it. It is these ambivalent feelings, said Ramin, that formed the basis for his treatment of Jews.
According to Ramin on the one hand Hitler’s relatives and the friends who brought him to power, as well as his mistresses and personal physician, were all Jewish.
On the other hand he welcomed the expulsion of ambitious and influential Jews from Europe to the British Mandate of Palestine.

Despite the Israeli obsession with having “the perfect baby”, studies show a fear of birth defects is not the leading cause for abortion in Israel.
Over 50% of terminated pregnancies are a result of out-of-wedlock conception, incest or conception under illegal circumstances (such as rape, statutory rape), a Health Ministry report published on Tuesday stated.
The rate of abortions prompted by fetal defects remained steady since the mid 1990s, and between the years 2000 to 2007 a 4% drop in the number of women terminating pregnancies for this reason has been recorded.
The report covered 19,500 cases of abortion that took place in Israel in 2007. Data showed that 55% of abortions were a result of incest, illegal relations or out-of-wedlock conception.
A health risk to the mother and physical defects to the fetus were equally significant reasons for abortion, with each constituting the grounds for 18% of pregnancy terminations.
The mother’s age, either below 17 or above 40, was a factor in less than a tenth of abortions in 2007.
Over half of the abortions (58%) were performed in the period up to the seventh week of pregnancy. A third took place between the eighth and twelfth week, and a tenth of terminations were carried out past the thirteenth week of pregnancy, after the first trimester had ended.
40% of abortions performed in private hospitals Termination of more advanced pregnancies was rare in 2007, with 245 abortions after the twenty-fourth week of pregnancy being approved, making up about 1% of all abortions.
Forty percent of abortions were performed in private medical centers. Only 10 abortions took place in private ultra-Orthodox hospitals in 2007, due to defects that endangered the fetus or the mother.
About one quarter of pregnancy terminations in Israel were performed using the “abortion pill” Mifepristone, taken in the early stages of pregnancy, up to week seven.
In 2007, 20,900 women appealed to pregnancy termination committees in hospitals throughout Israel, and 19,544 requests for abortion were granted.
Last year’s overall abortion rate was the lowest in Israel since the early 1990s, and the Israeli abortion rate is, after Greece, the lowest of all European Union nations, with a rate of 133.8 for every thousand births, compared to the EU’s average of 246 per 1,000 births.
