Pope
Francis did not disappoint hundreds of former street children who were part of
a massive campaign to show him one of the centres where they have found safety
and love.
Although
it was not in his official programme, Pope Francis walked out of Manila's
Immaculate Conception Cathedral after Mass on Friday and across the street to
the Blessed Charles de Foucauld Home for Girls, which is run by the Tulay Ng
Kabataan foundation.
Accompanied
by Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, a frequent guest, the pope spent about half an
hour with some 320 boys and girls and young adults from a number of TNK homes
in metropolitan Manila.
"It
was a beautiful, beautiful encounter," Cardinal Tagle told reporters
later. "You could see the Holy Father was in his element."
The
cardinal translated for the pope as several of the children approached and
shared their stories, stories that often included horrible experiences of
exploitation and abuse when they lived on the streets.
"You
could see the attentiveness of the Pope," he said. Getting emotional
himself, the cardinal said that as he listened, the Pope's "eyes were
getting cloudy and beginning to fill with tears. You could see he was trying to
show his affection to the children, but at the same time trying to fathom these
deep wounds and pain."
When the children came up to touch and to hug the
Pope, he said, Pope Francis whispered to him that it was clear they yearned for
a loving human touch, "the touch of a parent."
The Pope
"assured the children that they are loved by God, that God is with them,
and that they should not forget that."
In a text
message reply to questions, Vatican spokesman Fr Federico Lombardi said the
visit featured "songs, kisses and hugs. And a blessing."
"These
children – the poorest among the poor – are for sure the most vulnerable
victims of our society, but they remain masters of joy, as one can see on their
smiling faces," the foundation's director, 39-year-old Fr Matthieu
Dauchez, told Pope Francis.

In a
statement issued after the visit, the centre said that by taking the time to
meet "many children who faced horrors of the street like begging,
violence, drugs (and) prostitution," Pope Francis demonstrated "that
he is the Pope of the forgotten."
"This
is awesome," the statement quoted 10-year-old Alvin as saying. "He
gave me a huge warm hug!"

Ever since I could remember, my parents have always told me that
Ferdinand Marcos caused the downfall of the Filipino economy. I have
always believed them. However, lately, my children have been getting
conflicting reports on just who is to blame for this fall. This is why I
decided to do a little research on this.
So, which president actually made us the “Sick Man of Asia”? I decided to take a look at one prominent analytic indicator… the Philippine peso - US dollar exchange rate. I particularly looked for the rise and fall of the Philippine peso from 1965 (the Year Ferdinand Marcos took office) to 2012. Luckily, I found a site (www.fxtop.com) that actually calculated for historical Foreign Exchange data.
Here’s what I’ve found:

This chart seems to indicate that my parents were right. If you view the
chart, you'll notice that between 1970 and 1972, long before Ferdinand
Marcos declared Martial Law; the Philippine peso plummeted by a
staggering 40%. So, was this the start of our downfall? It would seem
so. However, I’ll let you be the judge of that.
Yet, a question still lingers in my mind. If Ferdinand Marcos did cause our downfall, why haven’t any of the other five presidents after him done anything to bring our economy up? In fact, they’ve brought it down even further. Well, Benigno “P-Noy” Aquino Jr. still has a chance to make it right.
Yes, we’ve had a windfall in terms of foreign investments since early 2012; yet, somehow, it just doesn’t seem to be enough. P-Noy can’t afford to rest on his laurels right now. He’s got a great big mountain to climb.

Unwelcoming Obama: Protests set to hound US President’s

This Friday, April 26, Bayan, the umbrella
organization of progressive groups based in Metro Manila, announced that they
are now all set to launch a two-day protest during the expected two-day state
visit of Obama early next week.

Protest actions in the Philippines next week include a protest march to the
former US air force base in Clark, Pampanga, and protest caravans and marches
across Mindanao where US troops have been stationed since 2002. Groups from
Southern Tagalog are also expected to troop to Metro Manila.
In Manila, Bayan will converge at the Liwasang Bonifacio on April 28
before marching to the historic Mendiola bridge where they will hold a program.
A giant effigy of a puppet president Benigno Aquino dragging Obama on a chariot
is announced as the visual centerpiece of the protest.
Bayan also announced yesterday that it is coordinating with groups from
Japan and South Korea for continued protests against plans to increase US bases
and troop presence in the region along with a renewed push for the US-led trade
pact that is the TPPA.
The group has decried the railroading of the Agreement on Enhanced
Defense Cooperation which it described as a de facto basing pact that signals a
second US military occupation. Bayan also objects to the TPPA which it said
will result in amendments to the Philippine Constitution and the removal of any
protection for the domestic economy.
Baseless base justifications
Before they burned a US flag at Liwasang Bonifacio this Friday, Mark
Louie Aquino, Bayan Metro Manila secretary general, scoffed at the broadly
hinted “false promises” that US would help the Philippines in its conflict with
China. This issue is one of the reasons being cited by the Aquino
administration to present the “special relationship” with the US government and
its military’s increasing access in the Philippines as something this country
needs, “for minimum, credible defence posture,” as the defense and the foreign
affairs secretaries often put it.
Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) in Metro Manila said schedules for
their 2-day protest next week are all set to tell Obama that he and his troops
are not welcome in the Philippines because of their “evil agenda in the country
and the rest of the Asia Pacific region.”
Last Tuesday, Obama kicked-off his Asian Tour in Japan, South Korea,
Malaysia and the Philippines to push for the US military pivot and the Trans
Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA).
The US government’s biggest military bases in Asia are in Japan and
South Korea, so far. With their announced pivot, they have been “railroading
the conclusion of an access agreement of US troops to Philippine territory and
military facilities,” said Aquino of Bayan-Metro Manila.
Patriotic groups regard this as a new military basing agreement, citing the
definitions of the US Department of Defence of “military bases,” and the scant
details about its content so far revealed by the Philippine panel. News reports
said negotiation and finalization of the Framework Agreement on Increased
Rotational Presence and Enhanced Defense Cooperation (FA-IRPEDC) are ongoing,
being rushed even, in time for the state visit of Obama.
Under the FA-IRPEDC, or Agreement on Enhanced Defence Cooperation, the
Philippine government is reportedly agreeing to give full access to US troops
and their warships of stations and facilities of the Armed Forces of the
Philippines (AFP) nationwide, plus the former US military bases in Clark and
Subic.
On top of these, US troops already have camps largely for their use
alone in Zamboanga City, Marawi City, and Quezon City.
The agreement under negotiation reportedly will allow “rotational
presence” of deployed military forces of the US government in the country,
without limits on the number of troops, territorial scope and duration of stay.
The said agreement in the making is introduced by the panel of
negotiators from the Philippine and US Departments of Defence as an executive
agreement. As such, they claimed it does not need the approval of the
Philippine Senate to be legally binding.

“This access agreement between the US and PH governments is nothing but a
one-sided pact for the sole benefit of the Obama administration, and not for
the Filipino people, contrary to its justification about AFP modernization.
Upon entering FA-IRPEDC, the country will only be dragged into wars being
mongered and instigated by the US,” said Mark Louie Aquino.
Puppies in protest
Earlier in the week, members of the Philippine police water cannoned
protesters led by the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan as they marched to the US
Embassy in Manila. In observance of Earth Day in various cities in the country,
the increased presence of US troops and their environmentally destructive
ships, weapons and wastes were also condemned.
This coming Sunday, youth groups led by Kabataan Partylist and the League
of Filipino Students are set to hold a “SOLIDARITY PET WALK” for Philippine
sovereignty. As the activists brand a puppet president as “puppy” president,
they said they will walk their pet dogs to proclaim their pets are not US
puppies. They are inviting other pet owners and health buffs to join their walk
at Quezon Memorial Circle.
In Bicol where a month-long US joint military exercises, dubbed as
Balikatan, had started last week, thousands have joined an anti-Balikatan
alliance, and they are also holding protests in the region, said Aquino of
Bayan-MM.
BAYAN Metro Manila said the master-puppet effigy of Obama and Aquino will soon
be completed in time for their protests next week. Along with US flags, this
Obama-Aquino master-puppet effigy will be burned during their 2-day protest
actions.

Obama-Aquino war agenda hides behind peace and human rights issues

“With the aim to dissipate people’s anger around the world, the master
war-monger US President Barack Obama and his puppet Philippine President
Benigno Aquino desperately attempts to place out of sight its war
agenda by using the all-too-familiar shroud of“anti-corruption,
pro-peace and human rights” slogans. The catch phrases, the two expect,
would lend a veneer of acceptability to their treachery to the Filipino
people,” said Karapatan secretary general Cristina Palabay.
“The US government cannot veer away from its record of intervention and
invasion of countries, which is actually what its Asian pivot is all
about,” said Palabay. “Obama and Aquino cannot camouflage the treachery
involved in the signing of the Enhanced Defence Cooperation Agreement
(EDCA), which does not only violate the Philippine Constitution but is
also a sell-out of the nation’s sovereignty," Palabay added.
Karapatan said the US’s so-called concern on human rights abuses in the
Philippines is “duplicitous” as the “US is equally responsible as the BS
Aquino government for the said abuses through its military aid,
deployment of troops and a US-directed counterinsurgency program Oplan
Bayanihan. The US is the main funder of the AFP’s war chest.”
This year, the US Congress lifted restrictions in granting military aid
to the Philippines andapproved U$50 million, on top of the $40 million
pledge made by US State Secretary John Kerry’s in December 2013.In 2011,
US military aid was reduced to U$11 million from U$507 million in
2001-2010. The cut was due to international pressure to stop the rampant
killings in the Philippines. In 2012, the US military aid rose to $30
million and has since then increased steadily.
Human rights and peace
The increase in aid has emboldened the BS Aquino government and the
Armed Forces of the Philippines to go on a killing spree which resulted
in 21 victims of extrajudicial killings and 23 victims of frustrated
killings for the first quarter of 2014 alone.
“This is actually the kind of peace the US-Aquino regime wants, nothing
more. The US-Aquino regime uses the surrender-or-get-arrested/killed
approach to peace negotiation with the National Democratic Front.The
inclusion of the CPP-NPA in the US list of terrorists is among the major
obstacles in the peace negotiation between the GPH and the NDFP. You
cannot talk peace with the NDFP if its peace consultants are killed,
abducted and missing or detained. You cannot talk about peace whenthe US
and PH governments use the militarist approach to derail the
negotiations on the substantive agenda on socio-economic and political
reforms,” said Palabay.
“Both Obama and Aquino are so adept at dangling human rights and peace
issues to prop up its image as it prepares for an increased and
permanent presence in the Philippines for its vaunted Asian pivot,” she

Today is Int’l Day of Action vs. Obama visit to the Philippines
A day before U.S. Pres. Barrack Obama’s arrival in the Philippines, overseas Filipinos and Filipino communities from all over the world held simultaneous US flag-burning and protest activities to condemn the US government for preying on the Filipino people and the country’s resources.
Migrante International led today’s International Day of Action to mark protest of Filipinos worldwide against the US Pivot to the Asia Pacific region and Oceania. “Obama’s recent visits to Japan, Malaysia, South Korea and the Philippines are meant to secure the US’ war-mongering and selfish interests in the region,” said Garry Martinez, Migrante International chairperson.
He said that today’s International Day of Action also strongly condemns the Aquino administration’s “outright and shameless puppetry and subservience to the US neoliberal agenda”.
Today, overseas Filipinos in Hong Kong, Australia, Canada, South Korea , Japan, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Austria, Europe and the United States held simultaneous protest actions and flag-burning activities and participated in the International Day of Protest.
In the Philippines, members of Migrante International burned US flags in Quezon City, Manila and Caloocan. Chapters and members of Migrante International will also participate in various multisectoral rallies and protest activities worldwide on April 28-29, dates of Obama’s visit in the Philippines.
“The message of Filipinos around the world is loud and clear. Obama, you are not welcome in the Philippines. Stop plundering our resources and exploiting our people. US troops are not welcome in the Asia Pacific. US bases should be kicked out in other parts of the world,” Martinez said.
The US presently has 265 bases in 41 countries, Logistics Agreement with 76 countries and Status of Forces Agreements with 121 countries. In the Philippines, the Visiting Forces Agreement is set to be further reinforced by the Aquino government signing into the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement “which will virtually transform the whole Philippines into one big US military base”, said Martinez.
“Obama and the US government will make the Philippines its frontline of defense. The agreement will make us vulnerable to attacks from enemies of the US, and BS Aquino, the ever-reliable puppet, is allowing it,” Martinez said.
He said that the Aquino government’s railroading of charter change is also a “welcome present” to Obama. “Aquino’s cha-cha, allowing 100% foreign ownership of land, businesses, industries and resources in the Philippines will make Filipinos squatters in our own homeland.”
Migrante International called on all freedom-loving and patriotic Filipinos around the world to join protests against increased US intervention and aggression in the Philippines and in the Asia Pacific. ###

End the brutal regime of US bases, armed intervention, drone strikes, and other brazen violations of national and the people’s sovereignty!
We at Migrante Austria condemn the Aquino administration as it gears to present itself as a reliable, dutiful US ally during Obama’s visit next week.
Obama will surely be pleased with what awaits him – he will be convinced, more than ever before, how well Aquino does his part in protecting and promoting US economic and geopolitical interests in the Asia Pacific region.
A new defense accord with major stipulations, the so-called Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA), is trying to find its way as an executive agreement, bypassing the Senate. It would allow increased US military access to the country in exchange for “critical and timely support to the modernization of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (and the) achievement of the country’s minimum credible defense posture”.
Truth is, according to Congressman Neri Colmenares, “the EDCA will practically bring back US military bases in the Philippines without a treaty, without rent and without limits as the American may use all Philippine military facilities – an arrangement worse than the Bases Treaty rejected by the Philippine Senate in September 1991.”
US treaty allies such as Japan, South Korea, the Philippines and Australia are being made to host an increasing number of US troops and naval as well as air force assets. At the same time, the US is passing on to its treaty allies the increasing cost — monetarily and socially — of hosting US military forces including but not limited to paying for new bases construction, upgrades and maintenance; absorbing consequent environmental degradation and destruction; and dealing with a slew of social problems such as prostitution of women and children, drug trafficking, abandoned Amerasian children and various violent crimes such as rape, homicide and murder.
It is noted that US and the Aquino administration are actively undertaking what are obviously anti-China provocations and propaganda aimed at justifying the escalation of US military intervention and further entrenchment of US forces in the Philippines, as part of the strategic scheme of the US to preserve and strengthen its hegemony over the Asia-Pacific region, particularly East Asia.
Ironically, while the Aquino government is asserting the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity against China intrusion, it is surrendering the same to the US.
Parallel to the EDCA proposal, the clamor for charter change has resurfaced in Congress . Aquino’s allies deceitfully insist that the “economic provisions of the Philippine Constitution have to be amended if we are going to attain inclusive growth in the next decade or so. ” They actually are in a hurry to grant full rights to foreign capitalists for the country to be part of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA), a new pact expected to require member-countries to remove any remaining barriers to investments, to strictly enforce intellectual property laws that would raise pharmaceutical costs and stifle digital innovation and freedom of expression, and to allow private corporations to sue states before an international tribunal—thus in effect obliging member-countries to surrender their national sovereignty.
These “welcome gifts” for Obama are clearly a declaration of war on the Filipino people. They are an affront to our liberties and sovereignty. They will further bury the nation into the quagmire of debt, poverty and other social problems. We must stop them in every way we can.
Let us end the brutal regime of US bases, armed intervention, drone strikes, and other brazen violations of national and the people’s sovereignty. Let us continue to oppose highly damaging neoliberal economic dictates aimed at passing on the burden of the crisis of imperialism to the Filipino people.
Let us resolutely and militantly expose and oppose the puppetry, shameless mendicancy and the hypocrisy of the Aquino in pretending to be for national sovereignty and territorial integrity against China while inviting and welcoming increased US military intervention in the Philippines and using the country as a base for strengthening US hegemony in the Asia Pacific region.
Let us demand and aspire for peace, genuine development, and social justice, as opposed to imperialist wars and plunder.
No to US bases, and imperialist wars and intervention!

The following book, which I had just purchased the day before yesterday, provides a bit of background during and following the transition from Spanish to U.S. rule
"The Bully Pulpit: Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft and the Golden Age of Journalism" [*] Doris Kearns Goodwin pp 302-305
" Contemplating his return to the Philippines, Taft decided to top first in Rome, where he hoped to personally negotiate some solutions to the perplexing problem of the Spanish friars, a situation that had plagued him from his first days in the islands. To he Filipino people, Taft understood, the friars represented "the crown of pain, and every oppression by the Spanish government was traced by them to the men whose political power had far outgrown that exercised by them as priests". Over the years, these clerics had come to operate as political bes, acquiring 400,000 acres of the best agricultural lands and assuming despotic political power over the police, the civil government, and the schools. Once the revolution began, he wrote, they "had to flee for their lives. Fifty of them weer killed and three hundred of t hem were imprisoned." If they should return and attempt to to reclaim title to the land, he feared violence would break out. Roosevelt and Root deputized Taft to inform the Holy See that the United States would purchase the land for a fair price so long a the hated friars never returned to the archipelago. the land would then be redistributed among the poor Filipino farmers....
Several factor complicated Taft' mission. he had to take care throughout the process that his dealings with the Pope never implied diplomatic recognition, which would violate America's separation of church and state and incur the hostility of Protestants. At the same time, he sought to defuse Catholics' fears that he was antagonistic to the Church. His initial meeting with the Pope [Pius X], till "lively as a cricket" and "bubbling with humor" at eighty-two, went better than he could have hoped. Most significantly, Taft noted, he secured the pontiff' promised to meet all questions "in a broad spirit of conciliation," though the detail were left to a group of cardinal who proved far less accommodating. Weeks went by before the cardinals finally issued a statement on June 21, 1902. the church would consent to ell its property in the Philippines, but would not withdraw the friars currently in residence. With this unsatisfactory conclusion, negotiations were suspended....
In his speech at the [Filipino] palace, Taft told the people "in a straightforward way of his experiences in Washington and Rome. "Though negotiations with the Vatican had been suspended, "the sale of church lands to the government was assured," and he was confident that an agreement to the friars would eventually be worked out. Taft took comfort that the natives had clearly interpreted hi visit to Rome "as a real effort on the part of the United States to do something which could not have been for any other benefit than the benefit of the Filipino people." Visibly moved, he promised to work unremittingly for the people of the islands. So "universal, earnest, and enthusiastic" was the response, reporter noted, that it left no doubt that Taft had earned "a proud position in the hearts of the Filipino people."
Back in the United States, Taft's visit to Rome met with less enthusiasm. "I am in the wort hole politically I have ever been in my life, " Roosevelt confided to his newspaper friend Herman Kohlsaat. "the whole Catholic Church is on my back." Though every intelligence from the Philippine established "what a lecherous lot of scoundrels the Spanish friars are," Roosevelt privately rallied, Catholics maintained that these reports were "simply propaganda to establish Protestant missions in the Philippines." If such "calamities" did not cease, the president was cautioned, Catholics would join en mass to thwart his nomination in two years time.
"As things have turned out, it has probably been unfortunate that we got you to stop in Rome,' Roosevelt wrote Taft, lamenting that the Catholic uproar had "rather complicated the political situation" at home. Perhaps, he suggested, they should let the whole matter go and simply administer the civil government, leaving the friars and other ecclesiastical bodies to get along a best they can."
Taft responded vehemently. "While the result of the visit to Rome may have been bad in the United States," he told Roosevelt, "I do not state it too strongly when I say that the visit to Rome has done us a great deal of good in this country." Taft's letter persuaded the president to continue talks with the Vatican, which eventually produced an agreement. The United States paid $7.5 million for the lands which were divided into small parcels and old to natives, creating a new landowning class. though the Spanish friars were never formally withdrawn, their power dwindled with the appointee of priests and bishops from other countries. Under Taft's deliberate leadership, a solution had been found that caused tensions and, in the end, finally satisfied the islanders, the administration, and the Catholic Church alike.

Just see the efforts in to convince the public that doc Rizal, killed by Jesuits' plot as believe Bobby Limeta, before execution came back in the arms of Mother 'church', the Catholic church. itself in the eye of yet another storm following Saturday’s revelation

On the eve of the International Human Rights Day last December 9, the US Senate Intelligence Committee, chaired by Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-California), released the 525-page summary of the 6,700-page report on the program of “enhanced interrogation techniques” (torture) used by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in the name of counter-terrorism in the years of the Bush II regime, following 9/11. The full report is based on 6.3 million pages of official documents. It confirms that the CIA engaged in various forms of physical and psychological torture in “black sites” (secret various places for detention and interrogation in various countries).
The forms and methods of torture included the following: covering the face of a detainee with hoods, sacks or duct tape; physical beatings, walling, stress positions, electric shocks, burns and other forms of inflicting physical pain; prolonged sensory deprivation and cramped confinement in isolation cells and coffins; deprivation of sleep, food, water, clothes or medical care; repeated water boarding and near-drownings; intimidation with the use of dogs; sexual abuse and humiliation; mock executions and death threats; and inducing death by hypothermia or heat injury.
All the foregoing brutal acts are in violation of US and international law, which prohibit torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment. But the entire report is withheld from the public. Worst of all, in the summary report, there is no reference to or indication of the accountability of those who authorized and committed the crimes. Thus, there is an immediate and growing demand by human rights advocates and the people for the full unredacted report and for the US Department of Justice to open a criminal investigation of those accountable.
The summary report focuses on the criminal acts of torture to the point of not giving due attention to similarly criminal acts of kidnapping and enforced disappearances of victims, renditioning them to the “black sites” in various countries, creating such sites and operating airlines for the purpose, lying to Congress about the acts of torture and the results illegally obtained, and misappropriating public funds. The summary report also tries to minimise the accountability of then US President George W. Bush by claiming that he was kept in the dark for many years by the CIA.
Former Vice President Dick Cheney is unrepentant, dismisses the report as mere crap and arrogantly asserts that if he had the authority he would do the “enhanced interrogation program” again. He admits that Bush was always in the loop in the conception, planning, authorization and implementation of the program.In fact, Bush himself proudly admitted in September 2006 that the program was his. And once more he admits in his memoirs that he authorized and encouraged “water boarding” and other enhanced interrogation techniques in the program.
The program was made under the Bush national security policy and wasauthorized and facilitated by President George H.W. Bush, Vice President Richard “Dick” Cheney, National Security Advisor Condoleeza Rice, White House legal counsel Alberto Gonzales, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, Vice Legal Counsel & Cheney Chief of Staff David Addington, CIA Acting General Counsel John Rizzo, CIA Director of National Clandestine Service Jose Rodriguez, Deputy Assistant US.Attorney General John Yoo, and several others.

As the world marks the International Human Rights Day today, 10 December,
we wish to highlight a form of human rights violation that does not get
as much attention but nonetheless deeply impacts millions of people
around the world, especially in the poor countries. Land grabbing, often accompanied by the grabbing away of resources such as water, represents
a worsening threat to the economic, social and cultural rights of
countless local communities, including the indigenous peoples. This systemic violation of human rights, including the right to food, right to self-determination of peoples and right to development, must be stopped.
Data
from the Land Portal’s Land Matrix show that worldwide land grabbing
involves around 36 million hectares, as of March 2014. Most land grabbing deals are concentrated in Africa and the Asia Pacific region, accounting for about 41% and 38%, respectively of about 942 land deals monitored by the Land Matrix. Within
Asia Pacific, land deals are heavily concentrated in Southeast Asia,
comprising 83% of the regional total and 32% of the global total. Estimates
on the extent of land grabbing vary widely but it could not be denied
that it is a daily reality confronting rural and indigenous communities.
In many cases, large-scale land investments for export-oriented plantations, logging, mining, biofuel production and power production among others result to the eviction of small food producers and indigenous peoples, many of whom are without formal security of tenure despite tilling, enriching and occupying the land for decades. National and local governments often negotiate with foreign and domestic investors behind closed doors and
in patent disregard for the participation of local communities that
will be impacted by such investments, including their access to land and
productive resources. These investments are also made and
promoted without due consideration to the actual development needs of
affected local communities that lead to their further marginalization
and oppression.
Worse, the human rights violations against the people even go beyond the actual land grabbing and also
involve atrocities that blatantly attack the political and civil rights
of those who challenge these land-grabbing deals and investments. There are numerous cases and many of them remain undocumented and unreported, and most are unresolved due to the involvement of state security forces themselves as well as private armed groups hired by the companies. This has been the case in the Philippines, Indonesia, Pakistan, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and many others where anti-land grabbing activists,
local community leaders, and their supporters face human rights
atrocities ranging from extrajudicial killings, abduction, legal
persecution and harassment, among others. Impunity reigns in many rural
communities that have been heavily militarized to protect corporate
investments.
We call on governments and private corporations to respect and implement existing human rights principles enshrined in national laws and international instruments, including the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. We demand that the right to free, prior and informed consent of communities be upheld before any land investments are made.
We demand to respect the customary rights of the people who do not have legal ownership of the land and water bodies. We demand the demilitarization of rural communities and the prosecution of all those who have committed human rights atrocities against people who are justly defending their legitimate right to land and resources. We
demand the implementation of genuine agrarian reform to promote the
rights and welfare of small food producers and to promote long-term
rural and economic development that serves the interests of the people
and not the just the elite few.
We welcome recent developments that aim to provide people an opportunity to make corporations that violate their human rights accountable. In particular, we take note of the United Nations Human Rights Council’s (UNHRC) resolution this year calling for the establishment
of “an open-ended intergovernmental working group on a legally binding
instrument on transnational corporations and other business enterprises
with respect to human rights”. Amid continuing trends of free
trade and investment agreements that allow TNCs to sue governments, the
UNHRC resolution is positive move towards regulating TNCs and their
activities in the context of human rights.
We emphasize, however, that the best prospects for the promotion of human rights, including the right to land and resources, lie not in any legal instrument but in the relentless struggle of the affected communities to defend their human rights. Thus,
working with those directly affected and violated, we vow to continue
the fight to oppose land grabbing and defend the human rights of rural
and indigenous communities.
Land
is life for these communities, and depriving them of land and resources
is depriving them of their basic human right to live. Fight for land,
fight for life!

The Philippines Under U.S. Imperialism
The American forces’ murderous reputation and culture of impunity extends internationally. In the Philippines, U.S. Marine PFC Joseph Scott Pemberton violently killed Jennifer Laude, a 26-year-old transgender Filipina. Instead of facing criminal charges under Philippine law, Pemberton is still in U.S. custody and benefits from its protection. Laude’s murder follows the tired pattern of Filipina victims of violence at the hands of U.S. troops illegally stationed in the Philippines. Under the Philippines-U.S. Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA) and the 2014 Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA), the Philippines has ultimately given up its rights to its colonial American master and relegated Filipinos, and especially Filipina women, to second-class citizens. The inaction and failure of the Philippine government to protect its own citizens exposes its true agenda: to serve the economic and military interests of the U.S.
A case in point of this is the frequent and extreme typhoons that have erased whole communities. Due to Philippine government corruption and pandering to multinational corporations, the country suffers from weak infrastructure, landslides due to large-scale mining and logging, poor warning systems, and hoarding of relief funds and goods by the Philippine government. U.S. military "relief" is in fact a ploy to justify sending in more troops, as to this day, many families have not received any relief and instead have relied on people’s volunteer organizations on the ground and foreign humanitarian groups, such as the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns. Aquino’s political impotence reveals the nature of his presidency as a puppet for U.S. interests.
The U.S.’ imperialist efforts toward political and economic domination is a key contributor to global human rights violations in all its forms. The global migration phenomenon is a result of unjust economic policies designed and implemented to benefit the U.S. and a handful of the most powerful governments and corporations at the expense of migrant workers. Filipinos, especially women, fall victim to labor and sex trafficking. GABRIELA USA is calling for justice for over 300 teachers who were recently trafficked by Isidro Rodriguez in Washington, D.C. Predatory agents like Rodriguez take advantage of the vulnerability of migrant workers due to weak legal protections in both their home and host countries.
The People’s Demands

SPANISH COLONIZATION SUMMARY & ANALYSIS

The arrival of Europeans in the New World in 1492 changed the Americas forever. Over the course of the next 350 years, Spain ruled a vast empire based
on the labor and exploitation of the Indian population. Conquistadors
descended on America with hopes of bringing Catholicism to new lands
while extracting great riches.Religion and self-interest combined to create
a potent mixture that drew hundreds of thousands of Spaniards across
the ocean with hopes of finding riches and winning souls for God. Along with the Spaniards came diseases to which the New World natives had no immunities.
What followed was one of the greatest tragedies in human history as smallpox, influenza, and other communicable diseases ravaged the native populations, killing millions. The Spanish never set out to destroy the people of the New World—after all, their goal was to use Indian labor for their own ends—and almost immediately a debate arose in Spain concerning the rights of Indians. This was the first time any European nation had consciously debated the rights and status of non-Christians. The traffic of Europeans to the Americas was not a one-way street. The so-called Columbian Exchange brought European goods and ideas to the New World—including the horse, which was not native to the Western Hemisphere—and returned new plants and animals to the Old World, including potatoes, corn, tomatoes and other crops. The world was forever changed by the new horizons opened by Spain's intrepid explorers, despite the misdeeds of Spanish rule in America.
Spanish conquistadors, who were primarily poor nobles from the impoverished west and south of Spain, were able to conquer the huge empires of the New World with the help of superior military technology, disease (which weakened Indian resistance), and military tactics including surprise attacks and powerful alliances with local tribes. Once an area had been conquered, it was partitioned intoencomiendas, or grants of land. More importantly, the Indian people themselves were parceled out to the conquistadors, who were given title to the land and its people in return for a promise to teach the natives Christianity. This system was heavily abused, and Indians throughout the Americas were reduced to a condition of virtual slavery.
However, due to natural attrition and harsh misrule, the population of native laborers soon became too small for the voracious Spanish, so they began to import African slaves to work in sugar plantations and silver mines. The introduction of African traditions to the Native American and mestizo cultures already in existence made for a social mixture richer than in almost any other part of the world, although racism continued to play a dark role in the New World. Colonial society was hierarchical, based upon on the amount of non-Spanish blood a person possessed. A complicated system, called the casta, delineated over 100 separate names for groups containing certain levels of Indian and African blood. Jobs, government positions, titles to land, and almost everything else in the Americas functioned according to this system with those at the top getting preference over those lower on the list. Discrimination and repression were features of Spanish colonial rule throughout its history.
Spain's government in Madrid tried hard to govern the New World, despite its distance from Europe. Using a system of viceroyalties and audencias, royal courts of appeals, the Spanish Monarchy was able to exercise control over Spanish settlers, even when they didn't want any sort of interference from the central government. The Crown was entitled to one-fifth of all mining profits, and this huge income helped Spain to become the largest and most powerful empire in Europe by 1600. Religion was mixed with politics to create a hybrid system in what would become the American Southwest: Dominican, Franciscan and Jesuit missionaries were often left in charge of large areas in what is now Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and, later, California. With its goal of bringing the Catholic religion to the New World, Spain was also able to use the existing church governments for its own political uses. Today, religion and politics continue to mix in Latin America.
The often-heavy handed rule from Madrid and the new ideas of liberty and freedom coming out of the American and French Revolutions brought about the wars of Independence in the early nineteenth century. Simón Bolívar—the Great Liberator—and José de San Martin led the fight for independence, although this was not a fight for Indian rights, or on behalf of the poor. Those who fought for South American independence were called criollos, American-born descendants of Spaniards, and they continued to rule the many new nations of Spanish America for generations. The Spanish left a legacy of cruelty and exploitation in their wake, but they also managed to open the world and increase cultural exchanges to a level never before seen in human history.
What followed was one of the greatest tragedies in human history as smallpox, influenza, and other communicable diseases ravaged the native populations, killing millions. The Spanish never set out to destroy the people of the New World—after all, their goal was to use Indian labor for their own ends—and almost immediately a debate arose in Spain concerning the rights of Indians. This was the first time any European nation had consciously debated the rights and status of non-Christians. The traffic of Europeans to the Americas was not a one-way street. The so-called Columbian Exchange brought European goods and ideas to the New World—including the horse, which was not native to the Western Hemisphere—and returned new plants and animals to the Old World, including potatoes, corn, tomatoes and other crops. The world was forever changed by the new horizons opened by Spain's intrepid explorers, despite the misdeeds of Spanish rule in America.
Spanish conquistadors, who were primarily poor nobles from the impoverished west and south of Spain, were able to conquer the huge empires of the New World with the help of superior military technology, disease (which weakened Indian resistance), and military tactics including surprise attacks and powerful alliances with local tribes. Once an area had been conquered, it was partitioned intoencomiendas, or grants of land. More importantly, the Indian people themselves were parceled out to the conquistadors, who were given title to the land and its people in return for a promise to teach the natives Christianity. This system was heavily abused, and Indians throughout the Americas were reduced to a condition of virtual slavery.
However, due to natural attrition and harsh misrule, the population of native laborers soon became too small for the voracious Spanish, so they began to import African slaves to work in sugar plantations and silver mines. The introduction of African traditions to the Native American and mestizo cultures already in existence made for a social mixture richer than in almost any other part of the world, although racism continued to play a dark role in the New World. Colonial society was hierarchical, based upon on the amount of non-Spanish blood a person possessed. A complicated system, called the casta, delineated over 100 separate names for groups containing certain levels of Indian and African blood. Jobs, government positions, titles to land, and almost everything else in the Americas functioned according to this system with those at the top getting preference over those lower on the list. Discrimination and repression were features of Spanish colonial rule throughout its history.
Spain's government in Madrid tried hard to govern the New World, despite its distance from Europe. Using a system of viceroyalties and audencias, royal courts of appeals, the Spanish Monarchy was able to exercise control over Spanish settlers, even when they didn't want any sort of interference from the central government. The Crown was entitled to one-fifth of all mining profits, and this huge income helped Spain to become the largest and most powerful empire in Europe by 1600. Religion was mixed with politics to create a hybrid system in what would become the American Southwest: Dominican, Franciscan and Jesuit missionaries were often left in charge of large areas in what is now Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and, later, California. With its goal of bringing the Catholic religion to the New World, Spain was also able to use the existing church governments for its own political uses. Today, religion and politics continue to mix in Latin America.
The often-heavy handed rule from Madrid and the new ideas of liberty and freedom coming out of the American and French Revolutions brought about the wars of Independence in the early nineteenth century. Simón Bolívar—the Great Liberator—and José de San Martin led the fight for independence, although this was not a fight for Indian rights, or on behalf of the poor. There’s an elephant quietly
sitting in the nave that everyone on all sides of the clergy sex abuse
crisis have been diligently ignoring, even the victims themselves. No
clergy or even would-be reformers have really remarked on it yet,
although it should be more obvious with each and every sad story. More
importantly, it is a troubling issue that touches on the very heart and soul of Catholicism.
The monstrous truth is simply this: what the clergy sex abuse crisis clearly demonstrates is that the sacramental system has failed.
This is not just a case of hierarchical reneging of responsibility.There’s more to this than some bad apples. This is nothing that a few reforms can fix, some screening of seminarians or more pastoral responses by bishops. It is nothing less than a fundamental challenge to the entire Catholic Church, and it shows that the spiritual principles the whole structure is supposedly based on simply do not work.
Think about it. The offenders here are Roman Catholic priests, highly trained men. But unlike other professionals, these men are supposedly set apart and dedicated to lives of the spirit. They claim to have the power to forgive sins and make God appear.
They not only administer the sacraments to others, but also receive them themselves daily. That means, among other things, frequent confession to other priests. Moreover, many of these men belong to religious orders or are otherwise under close spiritual direction. They are supposed to confide everything to their confessors and superiors and to obey them unquestioningly.
So what went wrong? When an abusive priest goes to confession, does he start, “Bless me, father, for I have sinned: I buggered an altar boy three times this week”? And does the confessor tell him to say 3 Our Fathers and 4 Hail Marys and not to do it again?
According to their own theory, confessors have the power to forgive sins, but also to refuse to do so if sorrow is insufficient. Moreover, they are to appoint penances – if they wish, they can require satisfaction or significant signs of reform from the penitent before absolution. Some sins – such as solicitation for sex in the confessional – are even deemed so serious that only higher prelates, sometimes only the Pope or his appointed delegate can forgive them.
Yet the abusers continue to abuse. So are the sexually active priestslying to their confessors? This would mean that not only do the perpetrating priests remain in a state of mortal sin and are automatically excommunicated, they perform the sacraments in that state which is itself a grave sacrilege.
Or, even worse, are all the abusive priests linked? Do they only go to confession to like-minded perps who will understand? Is there then an organized network of sexually perpetrating priests, all busily enabling each other? This adds collusion and conspiracy to the sinand would indicate that the very structure itself is rotten to the core.
The evidence available suggests that perhaps both scenarios are true to varying degrees in different situations. Either way, however, the result is much the same.
The sacraments are meant to unite believers with Christ. Not just to remove the accumulations of sin like the weekly laundry, but togradually improve the recipient. They are intended to sanctify and uplift the faithful, increase devotion to God, charity to fellow humans, and moral stamina in the face of evil.
If the sacraments actually worked like this, wouldn’t we hear ennobling stories of clerical reform, of some molester inspired to truly repent and devote himself to the cause? But rather, the stories are depressingly the same, of priests caught time and again, transferred, treated, and now finally, laicized often against their will, with no regret or even acknowledgement of their evil.
What this means, each person must decide in their own conscience. But perhaps the fall off in confessions over the years itself tells the story. Why should anyone, lay or not, risk a ritual that seems so impotent in promoting reform and may, instead of granting grace, actually expose them to greater human wickedness?

Support the Kurdish people's resistance against ISIS,
Condemn US and Turkey for creating and using ISIS

We, the International League of Peoples’ Struggle (ILPS), salute the heroic resistance of the Kurdish people and their army in Rojava, the YPG/YPJ – People’s Protection Units – against the criminal gangs of the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) in Kobane, one of the self-governing cantons of West Kurdistan (Rojava) in Syria.
We call on all the more than 300 ILPS member-organizations in 38 countries around the globe to take initiative and express their solidarity and support to the Kurdish people's resistance in Kobane and the whole of Rojava, or join the demonstrations being organized by the Kurdish liberation movement in different parts of the world.
The ILPS condemns the super-terrorist US for creating the ISIS monster that has rampaged through parts of Syria and Iraq, committing hideous crimes against the people in areas that they have overrun. We condemn Turkey for collaborating with the US in creating, arming and coddling this horde of terrorists.
ISIS and similar extremist Islamist terrorist groups like the Al Qaeda and Al-Nustra have been created by the US as part of its over-all scheme to remake the Middle-East, by carrying out regime change in such countries as Libya and Syria that have dared to assert their national sovereignty against imperialist plunder and war. For its part, the Turkish government is using ISIS to attack the Kurdish liberation struggle led by the PKK.
ISIS terrorists have been trained by US Special Forces in secret NATO bases inside Turkey and Jordan. For the last year and a half, the US has been developing what the world has now come to know as ISIS. Turkey has allowed safe passage through its borders of jihadists from different parts of the world to join ISIS, and has facilitated the transport of wounded ISIS terrorists to be treated in hospitals in the Turkish province of Urfa and other cities in Turkey.
The US is remaking the Middle-East in order to consolidate its hegemony in this oil-rich region. It is using the ISIS in the same manner as it has used Neo-Nazi gangs in the Ukraine to stir up trouble and force regime change, toppling the duly-elected president, and replacing him with a pro-Western president and a fascist military junta as part of US-NATO strategy to encircle and pressure Russia.
In the wake of the hideous crimes of the ISIS, including the massacre of Shiites and Christians, and the beheading of Western journalists, the US has pretended to adopt a policy of opposing ISIS and carrying out bombing raids against ISIS. In fact, the US is still thereby using the ISIS as the pretext to violate the national sovereignty of Syria.
The US war planes are actually bombing food granaries and buildings in Syria which are away from ISIS positions. They are now in a position to attack the forces of the Syrian government. Turkey has also exposed its real dirty agenda to attack the Kurdish liberation struggle by bombing PKK forces in Oramar (Daglica) near the border with Iraq, relieving ISIS from the successful counter-attacks of the Kurdish fighters and allowing the ISIS to block humanitarian aid from Iraqi Kurdistan.
The Kurdish resistance forces in Kobane have said that they can defeat the ISIS without any need for foreign intervention such as that falsely offered by the US and Turkey. All they need from Iraqi Kurdistan are sufficient weapons and ammunition against the tanks and vehicles mounted with big guns of the ISIS terrorists.
The terrible crimes being perpetrated by the ISIS and the support given them by the US and Turkey have aroused the anger of freedom-loving people throughout the world. At the same time, the heroic resistance of the YPG/YPJ – the People’s Protection Units – composed of Kurdish men and women, has inspired the people of the world to rally in support of the Kurdish liberation struggle.
The
acknowledged leader of the Kurdish liberation struggle, Abdullah
Ocalan, has called on the entire Kurdish nation to mobilize in support
of the resistance in Kobane. Kurds throughout the world have responded by organizing demonstrations in many countries calling for international support.
We must show our solidarity to the Kurdish people in their hour of need and give them all-out support until victory.

A History of Guatemala’s Syphilis Experiment: How a U.S. Led Team Performed Human Experimentations in Central America
Dr. Cyril Broderick, A Liberian scientist and a
former professor of Plant Pathology at the University of Liberia’s
College of Agriculture and Forestry says the West, particularly the U.S.
is responsible for the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. Dr. Broderick
claims the following in an exclusive article published in the Daily
Observer based in Monrovia, Liberia. He wrote the following:
The US Department of Defense (DoD) is funding Ebola trials on humans, trials which started just weeks before the Ebola outbreak in Guinea and Sierra Leone. The reports continue and state that the DoD gave a contract worth $140 million dollars to Tekmira, a Canadian pharmaceutical company, to conduct Ebola research. This research work involved injecting and infusing healthy humans with the deadly Ebola virus. Hence, the DoD is listed as a collaborator in a “First in Human” Ebola clinical trial (NCT02041715, which started in January 2014 shortly before an Ebola epidemic was declared in West Africa in March.
Is it possible that the United States
Department of Defense (DOD) and other Western countries are directly
responsible for infecting Africans with the Ebola virus? Dr. Broderick
claims that the U.S. government has a research laboratory located in a
town called Kenema in Sierra Leone that studies what he calls “viral fever bioterrorism”, It is also the town where he acknowledges that is the “epicentre of the Ebola outbreak in West Africa.” Is it a fact? Is Dr. Broderick a conspiracy theorist? He says that “there
is urgent need for affirmative action in protecting the less affluent
of poorer countries, especially African citizens, whose countries are
not as scientifically and industrially endowed as the United States and
most Western countries, sources of most viral or bacterial GMOs that are
strategically designed as biological weapons.” He also asks an important question when he says “It
is most disturbing that the U. S. Government has been operating a viral
hemorrhagic fever bioterrorism research laboratory in Sierra Leone. Are
there others?”
Well, Mr. Broderick’s claims seem to be true.
After all, the U.S. government has been experimenting with deadly
diseases on human beings for a long time, history tells us so. One
example is Guatemala. Between 1946 and 1948, the United States
government under President Harry S. Truman in collaboration with
Guatemalan President Juan José Arévalo and his health officials
deliberately infected more than 1500 soldiers, prostitutes, prisoners
and even mental patients with syphilis and other sexually transmitted
diseases such as gonorrhea and chancroid (a bacterial sexual infection)
out of more than 5500 Guatemalan people who participated in the
experiments. The worst part of it is that none of the test subjects
infected with the diseases ever gave informed consent. The Boston Globe
published the discovery made by Medical historian and professor at
Wellesley College, Susan M. Reverby in 2010 called ‘Wellesley professor unearths a horror: Syphilis experiments in Guatemala.’ It stated how she came across her discovery:
Picking through musty files in a Pennsylvania archive, a Wellesley College professor made a heart-stopping discovery: US government scientists in the 1940s deliberately infected hundreds of Guatemalans with syphilis and gonorrhea in experiments conducted without the subjects’ permission. Medical historian Susan M. Reverby happened upon the documents four or five years ago while researching the infamous Tuskegee syphilis study and later shared her findings with US government officials.The unethical research was not publicly disclosed until yesterday, when President Obama and two Cabinet secretaries apologized to Guatemala’s government and people and pledged to never repeat the mistakes of the past — an era when it was not uncommon for doctors to experiment on patients without their consent.
After Reverby’s discovery, the Obama
administration apparently gave an apology to then-President Alvaro Colom
according to the Boston Globe:
Yesterday, Obama called President Álvaro Colom Caballeros of Guatemala to apologize, and Obama’s spokesman told reporters the experiment was “tragic, and the United States by all means apologizes to all those who were impacted by this.Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton had called Colom Thursday night to break the news to him. In her conversation with the Guatemalan president, Clinton expressed “her personal outrage and deep regret that such reprehensible research could occur,’’ said Arturo Valenzuela, assistant secretary of state for Western Hemisphere affairs.
The study in Guatemala was led by John Cutler, a US health
service physician who also took part in the controversial Tuskegee
Syphilis experiments which began in the 1930’s. Researchers wanted to
study the effects of a group of antibiotics called penicillin on
affected individuals. The prevention and treatment of syphilis and other
venereal diseases were also included in the experimentation. Although
they were treated with antibiotics, more than 83 people had died
according to BBC news in 2011 following a statement issued by Dr Amy
Gutmann, head of the Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical
Issues:The Commission said some 5,500 Guatemalans were involved in all the research that took place between 1946 and 1948. Of these, some 1,300 were deliberately infected with syphilis, gonorrhoea or another sexually transmitted disease, chancroid. And of that group only about 700 received some sort of treatment. According to documents the commission had studied, at least 83 of the 5,500 subjects had died by the end of 1953.
Washington’s reaction to the report is a
farce. The apology made to Guatemala’s government was for the sake of
public relations. Washington knows about its human experimentations in
the past with deadly diseases conducted by government-funded
laboratories that are known to be harmful to the public. The U.S.
government is guilty in conducting numerous medical experiments on
people not only in Guatemala but in other countries and on its own
territory. As the Boston Globe report mentioned, the Tuskegee Syphilis
Study occurred between 1932 and 1972 by the U.S. Public Health Service
to study the “natural progression” of
untreated syphilis in the African American population. The U.S. Public
Health Service and the Tuskegee Institute collaborated in 1932 and
enrolled 600 poor sharecroppers from Macon County, Alabama to study the
syphilis infection. However, it was documented that at least 400 of
those had the disease (they were never informed that they actually had
syphilis) while the remaining 200 did not. They received free medical
care, food and even free burial insurance for participating in the
study. Documents revealed that they were told that they had “bad blood” which
meant that they had various medical conditions besides syphilis. The
Tuskegee scientists continued to study the participants without treating
their illnesses and they also withheld much-needed information from the
participants about penicillin, which proved to be effective in treating
Syphilis and other venereal diseases. The test subjects were under the
impression that they were receiving free health care from the U.S.
government while they were deliberately being lied to by the same
administrators who were conducting the tests. Washington is fully aware
of its human experimentations with deadly diseases. The government of
Guatemala also knew about the Syphilis experiments according to the
Boston Globe:
A representative of the Guatemalan government said his nation will investigate, too — looking in part at the culpability of officials in that country. The records of the experiment suggest that Guatemalan government officials were fully aware of the tests, sanctioned them, and may have done so in exchange for stockpiles of penicillin.
However, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services published the study ‘Fact Sheet on the 1946-1948 U.S. Public Health Service Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) Inoculation Study’ and was forced to admit what happened in Guatemala during the syphilis experiments:
While conducting historical research on the Tuskegee Study of Untreated Syphilis, Professor Susan Reverby of Wellesley College recently discovered the archived papers of the late Dr. John Cutler, a U.S. Public Health Service medical officer and a Tuskegee investigator. The papers described another unethical study supported by the U.S. government in which highly vulnerable populations in Guatemala were intentionally infected with sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). The study, conducted between 1946 and 1948, was done with the knowledge of Dr. Cutler’s superiors and was funded by a grant from the U.S. National Institutes of Health to the Pan American Sanitary Bureau (which became the Pan American Health Organization) to several Guatemalan government ministries. The study had never been published.
The U.S. government admitted to its
wrongdoing, 62 years too late. What Dr. Broderick wrote is not
conspiratorial in any sense. The U.S. government has been involved in
bioterrorism; Guatemala is a case in point. Dr. Broderick summarized
what average people can do to prevent governments, especially those from
the West from creating and exposing populations from diseases they
experiment with in laboratories:
The challenge is global, and we request assistance from everywhere, including China, Japan, Australia, India, Germany, Italy, and even kind-hearted people in the U.S., France, the U.K., Russia, Korea, Saudi Arabia, and anywhere else whose desire is to help. The situation is bleaker than we on the outside can imagine, and we must provide assistance however we can. To ensure a future that has less of this kind of drama, it is important that we now demand that our leaders and governments be honest, transparent, fair, and productively engaged. They must answer to the people. Please stand up to stop Ebola testing and the spread of this dastardly disease.
After Guatemala’s ordeal with the U.S.
government who deliberately infected people with syphilis, West African
nations should be extremely skeptical about the U.S. government’s
actions combating Ebola. Professor Francis Boyle of the University of
Illinois, College of Law questions the Obama administration’s actions in
West Africa. RIA Novosti recently interviewed Boyle and he said the
following:
US government agencies have a long history of carrying out allegedly defensive biological warfare research at labs in Liberia and Sierra Leone. This includes the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which is now the point agency for managing the Ebola spill-over into the US,” Prof. Francis Boyle said.Why has the Obama administration dispatched troops to Liberia when they have no training to provide medical treatment to dying Africans? How did Zaire/Ebola get to West Africa from about 3,500km away from where it was first identified in 1976?”
That’s
a good question for Washington, but would the public get any answers?
Not anytime soon, since it took more than 62 years for the Guatemala
syphilis experiments to be exposed to the public, not by the US
government, by a medical historian.
